The Secret Language of Tulips

The tulip has so many symbolic meanings, it is the flower of opportunity, wealth, vanity, a declaration of love and of resurrection or spring.

People used to wear a tulip to ward off poverty and some believed they held powers of prosperity and protection. I just love them as they are a sign of winter ending.

The colour of flowers holds different meanings and this goes for the tulip as much as for any other bloom.

  • Orange — I am fascinated by you

  • Pink — my perfect lover

  • White — forgiveness, and

  • Yellow — hopeless love, the gift of friendship.

My favourite is the parrot tulip, I’m growing my own this year, I think one lot of bulbs is even called ‘Amazing Grace’. I like the way they droop and bend and continue to grow even when in a vase.

Do you have a favourite tulip, have you had success with growing you own?
