A year in the garden

I have studied all aspects of floristry and love to create with flowers and source the right blooms for the right occasions for the right people. What I don’t know much about is gardening. As an enthusiastic novice Ive learnt the name to many trees and shrubs but no nothing about what should be planted where , what to grow , what not to grow , what needs to go in a green house , what really goes into compost and many many other things.

People often assume a florist is very green fingered , as much as im asked about flowers im asked about gardening “is this tree dead or does it need pruning ?” was yesterday , last week it was “how do you get climbing plants to climb?” . I DONT KNOW ! IM A FLORIST NOT A GARDENER !”…..

Well next week that will all change , I will embark on a horticultural course that will take me through a year in the garden. If I can come out of it able to manage my own garden that would be great, if I can also be a fountain pot knowledge for all those people who already assume I am green fingered , that would be even better.

Anyways , i’ll keep you updated with what I learn , so stay tuned. 🌸

Image is an allotment I admired over the summer. Maybe next year my garden will look like this.
